The Anping Lighthouse was one of the six lighthouses that the General Customs Commission of the Qing government left to the Japanese. (the other five are the Tamsui lighthouse, the Didaodeng lighthouse, the Kaohsiung lighthouse, the Yuwengdao lighthouse, and Eluanbi lighthouse) Lighthouse was built in 1891 with 100 candlepower which means it can be seen from ten nautical miles. In 1912, it was increased to 350 which can be seen from 14.5 nautical miles. The lighthouse provided guidance and protection to ships that travelled between Kaohsiung and Penghu for several years. However, after the war, Anping harbour was moved to another location and this lighthouse was discontinued.
